Andrej Štremfelj and his wife Marija climbed Mount Everest in 1990

We all know that Edmund Hilary of New Zealand was the first to climb Mount Everest. But did you know that the first married couple to climb Mount Everest were Slovenes? Andrej and Marija Štremfelj climbed the world’s highest mountain together in 1990. Interestingly, in that same year, Hilary’s son also climbed the mountain – the first child of a climber to do so.Andrej was also among the first Slovenes to reach the summit, back in 1979.
