Volunteers are involved in different activities, each of them being significant for society as a whole, e.g. working with the young and elders, marginal groups, the disabled in hospitals, the homeless, firefighting, self-help groups and so on.

In Slovenia, there has been a significant increase in volunteerism, especially among younger generations. In the NE town of Murska Sobota they launched a two-day Slovenian volunteering congress, running under the slogan of Buidling Community for Tomorrow.
