Although he was part of the “New German” style, the composer Hugo Wolf was born in Slovenia and was of Slovenian origins.
He was born in Slovenj Gradec in 1880, but spent a large part of his life in Vienna. His life was cut short after he contracted syphilis; he died in Vienna at the age of 42. His birthplace in Slovenj Gradec was recently renovated and can still be visited today.
