The possibilities for European funds are in cross-border cooperation, therefore representatives of the Sončni Kanin institution and the Bovec municipality have met with the mayors of neighboring municipalities from Italy and the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.
After many years of inactivity, new ties have been made with the new provincial government of Friuli Venezia Giulia. The decision to try to convince Brussels with cross-border cooperation is promising, argues Vice-President of the Regional Council, Stefano Mazzolini. "After five years of silence, Friuli Venezia Giulia again wants to talk with neighbouring regions. Together with Slovenia, we can carry out the project primarily for the development of ski tourism."
Additionally, the area can offer cycling routes, hiking, restoration of the former mining tunnel from Log pod Mangartom to Lake Rabelj, but the focus is on Kanin. The municipalities of Trbiž, Kluže and Rezija will also participate as partners of the Bovec municipaliyt, explains Danijel Krivec, an MP and a council member of the municipality. "On the basis of all these needs, we will prepare a joint presentation, make a joint appearance. We are going to put all these projects together, evaluate them and go past the established routes directly to Brussels."
All this by the beginning of next year at the latest. There isn't much time, emphasizes Mayor of Bovec Valter Mlekuž. "Our actual goals are that we should have a new cableway in the 2020/2021 season."
