If you see a big bird circling over a Slovenian highway, it’s probably a Common Buzzard, known in Slovene as a kanja. In the spring, you may even catch one doing something called “the roller coaster.”
This is a display by the male to impress female buzzards: it will go high in the air and then drop down, twisting and turning as if it were a crashing plane. The male will then rise up and do it again until the female is impressed ... or flies away.
