Not many people speak Slovene around the world

Only 2.5 million people speak Slovene around the world. That may not sound like a lot, but it depends how you look at it. For one thing, never before in history have there been so many Slovene speakers. And, according to the linguist David Crystal, even with 2 million speakers it’s in the top 10% of languages worldwide. It has, for example, four times as many speakers as Welsh. So it seems safe to say that the Slovenian language won’t disappear anytime soon.
