A specialty of Slovenia are the so-called panjske končnice – decorated panels that are placed over bee hives. The first one appeared in 1758, and while the first ones generally dealt with biblical themes – they quickly developed into a rambunctious form of folk art. You can find pictures of foxes shaving hunters, or devils sharpening female tongues, or even wilder pictures: like a rooster driving a bear around in a wheelbarrow. Examples are today collected in a museum in Radovljica, north of Ljubljana.
