In 1972, in Planica (Slovenia) the first Ski Flying World Cup was held. From then on, there exist three major individual competitions in world championships (medium and large ski jumping hills, and a ski flying fill), and two in the Olympics (medium and large ski jumping hills). The table below shows top six ski jumpers.

Note: The second column lists all individual medals (gold-silver-bronze) won at major competitions. The third column shows the period during which medals were won. The last column provides the number of years that each ski jumper needed for winning medals in all the five competitions.
In the last two seasons, ski jumpers could take part in five major competitions. Peter Prevc was the only to win medals in all the competitions. Where does the explanation for this phenomenon lie? What is the formula? "I never set myself the goal of winning a medal. I’m a man who goes along the way, on which I want to surprise as often as possible. When I reach one goal, I go further. I don’t even want to look back, I always look only forward," he said modestly after the recently won medal in a series of five medals.

He has been in form – on account of which he wins medals at major competitions – so to speak throughout the whole cooperation with the coach Goran Janus. He could probably have received his first medal as early as at the Ski Flying World Championship 2012, which was held in Vikersund, Norway; however, due to his injury inflicted after the fall on the ski flying hill in Oberstdorf (Germany), he couldn’t enter that world championship. His calmness is now so proverbial that in the Dictionary of Slovene Language the dictionary entry for calmness could be added his picture. Calmness also stems from his above-mentioned quote, which does not focus on the sweets of success (a medal), but the action (a ski jump).
Despite the resounding top five ski jumpers, there are still many things which without doubt can only motivate Prevc. According to the table above, he is still waiting for a gold medal. Medals are a great success, but as the Slovenian snowboarder Žan Košir said picturesquely after winning a silver medal, it is victories that the elite athletes want.
The book of successes achieved in the Slovenian sport is extremely thick and rich, but in reality it has little frequent winners who win first places like anything. In ski jumping, first place definitely belongs to Primož Peterka, who scored 13 World Cup victories in two-and-a-half winter seasons, won two Big Crystal Globe trophies and became winner on a New Year’s tour. These are certainly goals towards which Peter Prevc is working. Is he able to achieve them? Might he do more than that? With regard to his short career, I believe he can do so. Moreover, I believe he is mentally mature enough not to fail in doing so.
