The majority of the unemployed are those without professional qualifications. The only rate that is lower, compared to other countries, is the number of young people as they mainly leave after finishing their studies and never return to their home region.
Nearly 3300 of the more than 9 thousand registered as unemployed in Pomurje are without a professional education. 429 of the remaining are economic technicians, 332 salespeople, 282 dressmakers and tailors, 264 high school graduates and 114 economists with a university degree as well as 35 university graduate lawyers. The unemployed tend to be over 30 years of age. About 2300 are younger than 30.
Young people, especially those, who are highly educated, just don’t return home because they know there is just no work for them there, it is unpaid or not duly paid. This causes more and more of them to serve their daily bread in Austria. There is no official data on how many Slovenes work in Austria, but the estimates are somewhere between13 to 16 thousand. More and more of them are moving there as well.
