Economic sentiment in 2018
In the beginning of 2018 the economic sentiment in Slovenia was the most favourable in the last 10 years. It hasn’t been this good since 2007, when it reached its historic peak. From the beginning of 2018 until September it deteriorated quite notably, while in the last few months of this year it slightly improved.
Sentiment indicator improved at the monthly level
In December 2018 the value of the sentiment indicator (at 11.0 percentage points – p.p.) decreased by 1.0 p.p. compared to November 2018 (at 10.0 p.p.).
The increase in the sentiment indicator at the monthly level was influenced by the confidence indicators in services (by 1.1 p.p.), among consumers (by 0.4 p.p.) and in retail trade (by 0.1 p.p.). Confidence indicators in manufacturing and construction had a negative influence on the monthly change of the sentiment indicator (by 0.3 p.p. each).
Sentiment indicator down at the annual level
In December 2018 the sentiment indicator was 4.7 p.p. lower than in December 2017.
The decrease was caused by the negative annual change of all five confidence indicators from which the sentiment indicator is composed. The manufacturing confidence indicator had the greatest influence (by 2.7 p.p.), while other indicators had a less substantial influence; confidence indicator among consumers (by 1.0 p.p.), in services (by 0.4 p.p.), in retail trade (by 0.4 p.p.) and in construction (by 0.2 p.p.).
