The marathon is traditionally held in October

The Ljubljana marathon began in 1996. In its history so far, only one person has won it three times in a row: Helena Javornik from Celje. Her course record was also untouched for a decade. She has also won the Vienna marathon and Amsterdam marathon, and set a national record at the Athens Olympics in 2004.
