The Mladika building was originally an all-girls’ school

The Mladika building in Ljubljana is currently the home of the Slovenian foreign ministry. But that’s not what it was when it was first built. It was built in 1895 in red-brick and stucco with owl motifs. The owls were supposed to symbolize wisdom, which made sense because the building was originally an all-girls’ school. Thus, the name “mladika” which means “offspring” - a name it has kept to today.
