Tina Maze's first gold medal led to celebrations around Slovenia. Maze won two silver medals at the last Olympic games in Vancouver. This was her first gold, which she shared with a Swiss skiier. (The shared gold is also a historic first for women's downhill skiing).

Maze has had a somewhat uneven season so far, and there is speculation the world champion and now gold-medal-winner may retire. The 30-year-old from Črna na Koroškem has had a spectacular career. But her time at the Olympics is not yet over: she still has two events to compete in before the Sochi Olympics end.
