Slovenes love music, and evidence suggests people here have been loving it for a long, long time. Europe’s oldest musical instrument was found near Cerkno in northwest Slovenia and is believed to be about 55,000 years old. It’s a flute made out of the bone of a bear. It’s also claimed that the flute fragment was tuned to a diatonic scale, although this is still being disputed by scientists. Either way, the Divje Babe flute is not being played anymore, and has come to rest in the National Museum of Slovenia in Ljubljana.
