Slovenia celebrates the 31st of October, Reformation day (Dan reformacije). However, only about 1 % of all Slovenes are Protestants. So why is it a public holiday? Because it’s the reformation that Slovenia thanks for its alphabet and letters. Even more important: the time of the reformation was also the first mention of the words “Slovenes” as a people. Thus, the birth of the idea of Slovenia began in those days. That’s why Slovenia celebrates a protestant holiday, despite the fact that only 1% of its population are protestant.
