The Škocjan caves are one of the largest in the world

Slovenia has one beautiful World UNESCO Heritage site: The Škocjan caves. They are one of the largest known underground caverns in the world. The beautiful limestone caves go down to nearly 200 meters – that means you could almost fit three of Ljubljana’s famous nebotičniks into that space. The caves have awed people for thousands of years – the first written source about them comes from the 2nd century B.C. The caves were also so respected that they appeared on some of the oldest maps ever published. Today they are protected and still awe those that see them.
