The 25th annual clean-up of the Krka river is taking place today in the town of Novo mesto.

Around 70 divers from across the country are expected to take part in the event known as EKO 2018.

The event is organised by the Novo mesto Aqua Club under the auspices of the Slovenian Scuba Diving Association.

Slovenia was the first country to begin a nationwide clean-up campaign, with its 'Let's Clean Up Slovenia" drive in 2010.

The idea was also adopted in other countries, such as Latvia and Estonia.

This year there will be a World Clean-up Day after a 6-year hiatus, with Slovenia participating next Saturday, the 15th of September.
