Slovenia is marking Reformation Day today, a bank holiday.

The day commemorates the 16th century religious, cultural and political movement that played a key part in the development and promotion of the Slovenian language, as the first books in Slovenian were printed during that time, the STA reports.

Primož Trubar, the first and most prominent Slovenian figure of the Reformation, authored in 1550 the first printed books in Slovenian, aiming to help people learn the alphabet.

The main ceremony was held on the eve of Reformation Day in Ljubljana's Cankarjev Dom.
